How to Change Your Ice Bath Filter and Seal
Ice baths have surged in popularity over the past few years – and for good reason. Whether you’re an athlete looking to speed up recovery, or someone seeking mental clarity and an energising wellness boost, cold water immersion has become a go-to ritual. But to keep your ice bath performing at its best, it’s important to stay on top of simple maintenance tasks.
In this post, we’ll take a look at the benefits of using ice baths, and walk you through an often-overlooked but essential part of upkeep: changing the filter and ensuring the seal is properly in place.
The Benefits of Ice Baths
Regular cold plunges can support your health in more ways than one. Ice baths are known to:
- Reduce inflammation and post-exercise soreness
- Enhance muscle recovery and performance
- Boost circulation and immune response
- Improve mood, focus, and stress resilience

With daily or frequent use, it’s vital to ensure your system remains clean, efficient, and leak-free – and that starts with filter maintenance.
Why Proper Filter Maintenance Matters
Your ice bath’s filter plays a crucial role in keeping the water clean, fresh, and hygienic. Over time, filters collect debris, dirt, and impurities – so replacing them regularly is key to maintaining water quality.
But just as important as changing the filter is making sure the seal (or O-ring) that surrounds it is correctly positioned. This small but essential component ensures a watertight seal between parts of the system. If it’s out of place or damaged, it could lead to:
- Leaks around the filter housing
- Reduced water pressure or flow
- Strain on the pump or filtration system
- Shortened equipment lifespan

Step-by-Step: How to Change the Filter & Check the Seal
Here’s a simplified version of the process you’ll see demonstrated in our video:
- Power Off the Unit
Always turn off the ice bath at the mains before performing maintenance. - Isolate the Filter Housing
Locate the filter compartment and isolate the 3 red ball valves found inside the ice bath. - Remove the Old Filter
Carefully unscrew the housing and take out the used filter. - Inspect and Clean the Seal
The rubber seal (O-ring or gasket) should be free of dirt, wear, or twists. Gently wipe it down if needed. - Ensure the Seal is Properly Seated
Fit the seal snugly into its groove (in the main filter body, not the filter housing lid). It should sit flat, without any kinks or stretching. - Insert the New Filter
Place the new filter securely into the housing. - Close the Housing Firmly
Tighten or lock the housing back into place, ensuring even pressure around the seal. Bleed the top smaller screw if needed, you will hear the air ‘hiss’, and close once it has stopped. - Test for Leaks
Open the red ball valves, power the unit back on and check the area for any signs of water escape.
